Figure it out.

Figure it out.

I love that there is an entire page on the RATP website dedicated to letting riders know if/when there are any strikes going on.

Just saying…

Since Christmas Eve the RER has not been going to Charles de Gaulle airport (“Happy Holidays! Hope you don’t need to go to the airport anytime soon. Love, the Frenchies xoxoxox”). I guess we’ll check and see whether it’s still like this tomorrow since that was how we were planning on getting to the airport Tuesday.

Ohhh, the Irony!

Ohhh, the Irony!

It never occurred to me before that people would come spend their holidays here in Paris. But everywhere I went today in the metro was PACKED. Perhaps it’s partially Parisians coming home from their holidays? Or maybe the Eiffel Tower makes Paris a hot attraction for New Years?

Anyways, because of all this, something slightly ironic happened. I arrived at St Michel (which I have officially decided is one of my favorite places in Paris for several reasons), and found myself caught in a mob of people with luggage and maps, just randomly stopping in my path to reference their guide books.

So what do I say to myself?

“Ugh! Tourists.”

And then I just had to laugh because I was, in fact, making my way towards a little tourist boutique to buy gifts and goodies for friends & family. You see the irony of it all? HAHA

Can you handle it?!

Can you handle it?!

Tonight, I’m going to the Opera.

Oh, I’ve been waiting WEEKS to say that. It just sounds so sophisticated, haha. And on Christmas Eve, of all days!

I have a super cute, super French haircut! Well, super cute is a matter of opinion, I suppose, and I’m not sure how “French” it is, but whatever. It was cut by a French person, in a French-owned salon, in Paris.

That’s Quite Avant-Garde

That’s Quite Avant-Garde

No, yours truly has not given up on this blog! In fact, I’ve been feeling sickly for the past week, hence the lack of inspiration. I still managed to go out and visit, though: Musee des Arts Decoratifs and Starsbourg.

.
Musee des arts decoratifs: What a strange and complicated museum! First, the layout of the building is just bizarre. Can’t tell you how many times I got lost. And the exhibits? I don’t know, perhaps I’m not cultured enough to fully appreciate the fine art of having Elmo in a glass case as part of a “red” exhibit. There was also a Medieval arts exhibit, and a gallery of toys, which was just that: random toys cluttered together behind a glass case.

And then there were different rooms for different eras, but at this point, I needed to speed things up, and I couldn’t care less for random objects with no significant historical background except for the fact that it came out of the 70′s. Well so did my parents!

It wasn’t until I was leaving that I found out where I had to go to access the Fashion/Jewelry/Advertising galleries: they were at the other entrance! D’oh! So I instead opted for a look at the Sonia Rykiel exhibition going on there, since that was all I had the time for. And that was more interesting than the rest.

Strasbourg: The self-dubbed Christmas capital (second only to the North Pole, thank-you-very-much). It’s a cute little city, and we ended up lhaving a super delicious lunch at a restaurant in Little France.

One of my personal favorite moments in Strasbourg, however, was the ice skating rink. We didn’t go ice skating, but I’ve never realized how much fun it is to watch others skate. It’s like watching America’s Funniest Home Videos live! Absolutely priceless.

I would also like to introduce to everyone today the latest fashion straight from Paris. Expect to see it on the runways next year!

Pretty stylish bag, huh? It’s been all the rage on the Champs-Elysee this holiday season.

Clearance Delay, Say Whaat?

Clearance Delay, Say Whaat?

Ew, I feel sick. :(

I lazied around the house today: took a nap, finished my book, watched Monk, and Internet-ed.

Also stalked the package I mailed yesterday via FedEx.com. My poor box is stuck in Memphis, TN! The status says “clearance delay” which means it has to go through customs and they have to check the paperwork and such. Not cool. I had to fill out so many papers yesterday with the stupidest questions.
“Are they personal items? Are they gifts? What are the DVD titles? What is the duration of each film? Where were they manufactured?”

It’s crazy! I mean, we could get really technical: 5 books bought in America and France, but 3 of which published in the UK. And some other items which were bought in France but probably manufactured in China. The man at the counter yesterday just put them all as French products because, as I read today, the French don’t care about rules.
